2026 ESPYS Special Honorees Announced for Capital…

ESPN recently revealed the special honorees for ‘The 2026 ESPYS presented by Capital One.’ These awards aim to recognize athletes and sports leaders for their incredible courage, perseverance, and service. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Marcello Hernández and will take place in New York City, airing live from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center on July 15th at 8 p.m. EDT/7 p.m. CDT on ABC. If you can’t catch it live, don’t worry – the show will also be available for streaming on the ESPN App and Disney+, Hulu, and ABC Video on Demand the next day.

One of the honorees this year is Jason Collins, who will posthumously receive the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage. Collins made history as the first openly gay active player in the NBA, making a significant impact on LGBTQ+ visibility in professional sports. Following his basketball career, Collins bravely battled Stage 4 glioblastoma, sharing his journey publicly in hopes of helping others facing similar diagnoses. He will be honored with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, highlighting his legacy as a beacon of hope and inclusion in the sports world.

Former MLB pitcher Jim Abbott will be recognized with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, celebrating his extraordinary career and lasting impact as a symbol of resilience. Born without a right hand, Abbott defied expectations and threw a historic no-hitter for the New York Yankees in 1993. His story continues to inspire young athletes and families, showing that obstacles do not define potential.

Scott Ruskan, a U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer and former college athlete, will be presented with the Pat Tillman Award for Service. Ruskan displayed exceptional bravery and selflessness during a rescue mission where he stayed behind to help rescue over 165 people, even as 27 others tragically lost their lives. This award recognizes his commitment to serving others, echoing the legacy of NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman.

These amazing individuals exemplify courage, perseverance, and service, inspiring us all with their incredible stories of strength and determination. Be sure to tune in to ‘The 2026 ESPYS’ to witness these deserving honorees receive their well-earned awards.
