Prime Video Cancels 3 Shows, Including Critically Acclaimed Gen V with 94% Rating: What You Need to Know
Last week, Prime Video made some surprising decisions, canceling three anticipated shows, including a Stargate sequel that had fans buzzing. The axed series were “The Runarounds,” “Gen V,” and an untitled Stargate project, all getting the chop since April.
Even though “Gen V” received positive reviews, Prime Video opted to focus on an upcoming spin-off of “The Boys” instead. It’s a tough blow for fans of these shows, who were eagerly awaiting their premieres.
It’s not the first time Prime Video has left viewers scratching their heads with its cancellation choices. In fact, the streaming service has pulled the plug on a total of three series so far this year, with two of them connected to beloved franchises.
One of the canceled shows, “The Runarounds,” created by Jonas Pate of “Outer Banks” fame, followed a band navigating the music industry post-high school graduation. While it may have wrapped after just one season, the actors behind the fictional band have assured fans that they will continue making music despite the show’s demise.
Despite earning a stellar 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “Gen V” couldn’t evade the chopping block. This spin-off of the popular “The Boys” series didn’t quite hit the mark for Prime Video, prompting the decision to focus on another spin-off in the making.
In a surprising turn of events, an upcoming Stargate series was also axed by the streaming giant before production even began. Fans of the franchise were left disappointed by this decision, but executives felt the new show might not resonate with a wider audience beyond its loyal fan base.
It’s always tough to see shows you’re excited about get canceled, but such is the nature of the entertainment industry. Let’s hope that more exciting content is on the horizon for Prime Video viewers to enjoy.
