Stargate Reboot Discussion with Anderson on Prime Video
Richard Dean Anderson, known for his role in Stargate: SG-1, recently discussed the Prime Video reboot of the series before it got canceled. Anderson expressed his openness to returning to the franchise in some capacity, but emphasized that he didn’t want a new series to depend too heavily on his involvement.
The planned reboot of Stargate was aimed at being accessible to new audiences, with a fresh take on the beloved franchise. Although Anderson wasn’t approached to be part of the reboot, he shared that he had conversations with Brad Wright, the executive producer of SG-1, about the new direction of the series. Anderson expressed relief at not being put in a position to make a potentially awkward decision about returning to the franchise.
Reflecting on his retirement since 2013, Anderson mentioned that he’s been enjoying a more laid-back lifestyle, prioritizing spending time with his dogs and his daughter. He admitted to having “very low aspirations” and not actively seeking out new opportunities outside of his personal life.
Despite his openness to potential cameos or returns to iconic roles like Jack O’Neill from SG-1 or Angus MacGyver, Anderson seems content with his current chapter in life. His willingness to engage in the franchise in a different capacity shows his continued appreciation for the Stargate series and its impact on his career.
