Duke vs Michigan, Peacock, NFL Network & More: Latest Sports Media Updates
The upcoming Duke-Michigan college basketball game is reportedly making a big move from Madison Square Garden to loanDepot Park in Miami. This change is said to be in response to objections raised by the Big Ten and Fox Sports regarding Duke’s rights deal with Prime Video. Last year’s matchup, which took place in Washington D.C., was aired on ACC’s ESPN, so this year’s game contractually belongs to the Big Ten and Fox. Fox is standing firm on this issue, but both teams are eager to continue the matchup. The shift from an NBA/NHL arena to an MLB stadium hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but if it happens, it’ll be loanDepot Park’s first time hosting a basketball game.
In other news, NBCUniversal Media Group chairman Matt Strauss announced at the Evercore Global TMT Conference that Peacock is on track to achieve profitability for the first time in the second quarter of its fiscal year. Strauss highlighted the importance of live sports programming in this success. Despite Peacock’s consistent negative earnings since its launch in July 2020, the platform saw a $552 million loss in Q4 2025, attributed to increased programming and sports rights costs. However, the addition of 3 million paid subscribers was a positive sign. Comcast CFO Jason Armstrong expressed optimism for Peacock in the upcoming quarter, emphasizing the platform’s growth and potential.
Additionally, ESPN president Burke Magnus shared insights on their approach to NFL Network coverage. While NFL Network will report on the league, investigations will remain the purview of ESPN’s platform. This distinction aligns with lessons learned from ESPN’s college sports outlets like SEC Network and ACC Network. With the NFL holding a minority stake in ESPN, Magnus emphasized the importance of maintaining journalistic integrity and unbiased reporting. The partnership will not influence the network’s investigative journalism practices.
