Keanu Reeves seeks mercy for director Carl Rinsch in Netflix fraud case

Keanu Reeves recently showed support for his former director, Carl Rinsch, amidst legal troubles involving a fraud case with Netflix. Reeves, known for his role in the film “47 Ronin” directed by Rinsch in 2013, penned a letter in support of Rinsch as he faced sentencing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The letter, filed in court documents, highlighted Reeves’ hope for leniency and mercy in Rinsch’s sentence.

Rinsch was arrested on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and other related offenses after being accused of defrauding Netflix of millions of dollars for an incomplete series. Court records reviewed by USA TODAY indicated that Rinsch was found guilty on all counts in December. The indictment stated that Netflix had paid $44 million for “White Horse,” a sci-fi show by Rinsch, with an additional $11 million given for production expenses that were falsely claimed.

Reeves, who has known Rinsch for approximately 15 years, emphasized his desire for justice tempered with mercy for the director. While acknowledging that he did not have all the details of the case, Reeves’ letter aimed to convey his positive experiences working with Rinsch in the past. Such situations shed light on the complexities of relationships in the entertainment industry and the challenges faced by those involved in creative projects.
