Athletics promote Gage Jump, place Aaron Civale on 15-day IL in California

The Oakland Athletics are shaking things up by bringing up left-handed pitching prospect Gage Jump from Triple-A Las Vegas to the MLB. This exciting news was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Monday night.

In a corresponding move, the A’s placed starting pitcher Aaron Civale on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder tendonitis. Outfielder Denzel Clarke was transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room for Jump on the 40-man roster.

Gage Jump, drafted by the A’s in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft, is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the game. He’s ranked as the A’s No. 3 prospect behind shortstop Leo De Vries and left-handed pitcher Jamie Arnold, according to MLB.com.

During his time in Triple-A this season, the 23-year-old Jump posted a 4.50 ERA with 56 strikeouts and 20 walks in 38 innings pitched. As Jump steps up to the majors, it’s uncertain how long he will be given the opportunity to showcase his skills. However, with Civale sidelined, Jump could be a key player in the rotation for at least a couple of games.
