Huw Edwards to Present New Series on Channel 4: “Stating His Case”
Disgraced newsreader Huw Edwards is reportedly gearing up to share his side of the story in a new Channel 4 series, as per recent reports. Following his guilty plea in 2024 to charges of making indecent images of children, Edwards is said to be ready to make a comeback. Channel 4 is set to air his version of events, although one employee has reportedly called it a “desperate publicity stunt.” The channel is already under fire this week due to rape allegations made by participants on Married at First Sight UK.
In response to a Channel 5 drama about the scandal featuring Martin Clunes, Edwards released a statement condemning it and announced his plans to produce his own “account of these terrible events.” He is reportedly teaming up with publicist Barry Tomes, who is supporting him on a voluntary basis.
Tomes, who has previously worked with music legends like The Beach Boys, Tony Christie, and Alvin Stardust, indicated that Edwards had been contemplating a return to the spotlight before the Channel 5 drama prompted him to act sooner. Tomes believes Edwards has every right to share his perspective and hopes he will do so in a filmed documentary, should Edwards choose to move forward with the project.
Edwards resigned from the BBC in April 2024 on medical advice, just three months before he pled guilty to the charges. This marked a significant downfall for Edwards, who had enjoyed a lengthy four-decade career at the BBC.
The Independent has reached out to Channel 4 for comment on this developing story. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
