Peacock Spotted in Johnston County: Latest Updates

A beautiful peacock has been making its way around Johnston County after it escaped from its owner three months back. It’s been quite the sight for locals like Troy Kite, who couldn’t believe his eyes when he spotted the bird in his yard. According to Kite, “I looked out the front window and there it was. I was like no way!”

Photographer Haley Thomas also had a run-in with the peacock, describing the sound it makes as a mix between an upset cat and a goose. Quite the unique sound, huh?

Glen Hull, the peacock’s owner, has been on a mission to catch his runaway bird for the past three months. Hull, who has quite a collection of animals on his family land, including turkeys, geese, chickens, and guinea fowl, considers the peacocks his favorite.

Peafowls, like the runaway peacock in Johnston County, have a wingspan of about five feet but only weigh around 10 pounds. While they can fly, they typically don’t stray too far from home.

Hull explained that catching a peacock is no easy feat, as you have to wait until they roost at night to sneak up and catch them. It sounds like a real challenge!

Interestingly, the Chamber of Commerce speculates that there may be two peacocks roaming loose in the county—one in Ravia and another at the wildlife refuge. The runaway peacock has certainly been on quite the adventure, with residents sharing theories about where it might have come from.

It seems like everyone in Johnston County is captivated by this runaway peacock and is keeping an eye out for it. Who knows where it might turn up next!
