Mike Gansey and Nick U’Ren stand out in Sixers’ search
The Philadelphia 76ers are on the lookout for a new front office leader, and two names have recently emerged in the search. Mike Gansey, the general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Nick U’Ren, the GM of the Phoenix Mercury, are reported candidates to keep an eye on.
Gansey has been with the Cavs since 2011, starting from the G League and working his way up to GM under Cleveland’s president of basketball operations Koby Altman. The Cavs have seen success during Gansey’s tenure, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals after a 64-18 season last year, thanks to bold trades and successful draft picks like Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and Jaylon Tyson. Gansey also has a college basketball background as a sharpshooter for West Virginia during March Madness in 2005 and 2006.
On the other hand, U’Ren has experience with the Golden State Warriors, working under Bob Myers before joining Golden State’s front office. He played a pivotal role in the decision to start Andre Iguodala over Andrew Bogut during the 2015 NBA Finals. U’Ren is also the GM of the Phoenix Mercury, leading them to the WNBA Finals last season.
Both Gansey and U’Ren bring unique experiences and perspectives to the table, making them intriguing candidates for the Sixers’ front office leadership role. It will be interesting to see how the search process unfolds and who ultimately lands the position.
