Fox One’s Streaming Surprise: Sports Fans Sticking Around for Fox News

Fox Corp. launched its streaming service, Fox One, last fall with high hopes that sports fans would sign up to stream football games. However, what executives didn’t anticipate was that many of these fans would stick around even after the football season ended. Surprisingly, a lot of viewers have been tuning into Fox News Channel programs like “Jesse Watters Primetime” and “The Five.”

During the recent fiscal quarter, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch revealed that over half of the viewership on Fox One actually came from people watching news content. He expressed satisfaction with the fact that there hasn’t been much viewer turnover on the platform so far. While exact subscriber numbers haven’t been released, the success of Fox One’s news offerings has caught the attention of other mainstream TV-news outlets.

For instance, Versant’s MS NOW is planning to launch a new subscription service to cater to its user community, while Warner Bros. Discovery’s CNN has noted that its digital audience is significantly younger than its cable viewers. CNN’s new subscription offering has been performing well, exceeding initial targets.

It seems like Fox’s strategy to engage digitally savvy audiences with news content on Fox One is paying off, and it will be interesting to see how other networks adapt to this trend in the future. Exciting times ahead for streaming entertainment fans!
