Jimmy Kimmel urges fans to cancel Paramount+ subscriptions for Stephen Colbert

Jimmy Kimmel is rallying late night fans to show their support for Stephen Colbert by canceling their Paramount+ subscriptions. During The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s final episode on May 21, Kimmel, along with Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, and John Oliver, stood in solidarity with Colbert as they bid farewell to the show.

Kimmel pointed out that when his own show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, faced a controversial moment in September, fans canceled their Disney+ subscriptions in solidarity. He humorously questioned why fans weren’t canceling Paramount+ in support of Colbert, suggesting that maybe they never had it in the first place.

During the farewell episode, Colbert asked his guests to make a case for late night, prompting Kimmel to praise the dedicated fanbase of the late night genre. Despite challenges, Kimmel noted that people continue to tune in, either through traditional TV or online on platforms like YouTube.

While Paramount did not offer a response to Kimmel’s remarks, CBS announced last July that they were canceling The Late Show in what they described as a purely financial decision. Some speculate, however, that the cancellation may have been influenced by pressures related to President Donald Trump and a major corporate merger.

The cancellation of The Late Show came on the heels of Colbert’s criticism of Paramount’s settlement with Trump over an edited 60 Minutes interview. Colbert called the settlement a “big fat bribe,” emphasizing that legal experts found the president’s lawsuit to be baseless.

As Colbert bids farewell to The Late Show, Kimmel shared that his own show will air a rerun on the night of Colbert’s final episode out of respect. Moving forward, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen will take over the 11:35 p.m. time slot previously held by Colbert.

In times of change and transition, it’s heartening to see late night hosts come together to support one another. So, if you’re a fan of Stephen Colbert, now’s your chance to stand in solidarity by canceling your Paramount+ subscription – at least according to Jimmy Kimmel!
