Netflix to Co-Finance All Five Dogma 25 Films as ‘Mr. Nawashi’ Begins Filming

Netflix is stepping into the world of independent cinema with the announcement that it will be co-financing all five films in the Dogma 25 initiative. The first movie to kick things off is “Mr. Nawashi,” directed by Isabella Eklof and set to be released in 2027. This partnership is a major win for the project, as it secures the necessary funding to bring each of the five unique films to life.

“Nordisk Film Distribution will be handling distribution in the Nordic region, with the movies premiering on Netflix during the pay-1 window. This means that viewers in the Nordic countries will have exclusive access to these films early on.

“Mr. Nawashi” stars Danish actor Esben Smed and Tanya Holm Andersen. The film tells the story of Katarina, a talented singer with a zest for life but struggles with self-discipline. When she encounters the enigmatic Mr. Nawashi online, she discovers a new world of BDSM, where submission and devotion are met with care, coaching, and physical play.

The creation of the Dogma 25 initiative was a nod to the original Dogma movement from 30 years ago, with a fresh set of rules to uphold cinema’s originality. The aim is to support independent filmmakers and preserve the authenticity of storytelling in cinema.

Joining hands with Zentropa, DR, and Nordisk Film Distribution, Netflix’s involvement in the Dogma 25 initiative is a significant step towards bringing unique, independent cinema to audiences in the Nordic region. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting collaboration!
