Meet the Tacoma Author Behind the Netflix Film ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’

Tacoma author Shelby Van Pelt took a unique idea about an octopus and turned it into a New York Times bestseller called “Remarkably Bright Creatures.” The success of the book has now inspired a new film on Netflix with the same title. You can catch this film, starring Academy Award-winning actress Sally Field, on the streaming service right now.

Van Pelt recently sat down with ARC Seattle co-anchor Tyrah Majors to chat about the film adaptation and her return to the Pacific Northwest. It’s always exciting to see authors bring their stories to life on the screen, and Van Pelt’s journey from book to film is no exception.
