Bravo Produces Unscripted Microdramas for Peacock App
Microdramas are taking the entertainment world by storm, and it’s about time we see them hitting the big leagues. Creeping up in popularity, apps like ReelShort and DramaBox are cashing in big bucks, so it’s no surprise that Peacock is stepping up its game with two unscripted microdramas from Bravo.
These bite-sized vertical video series, running about 60 to 90 seconds each, promise a quick and addicting viewing experience, perfect for a TikTok-like scroll. “Salon Confessionals with Madison LeCroy” will showcase the “Southern Charm” star giving clients makeovers while divulging their most dramatic tales. On the other hand, “Campus Confidential: Miami” brings the drama to a group of college students, including Georgia Gay, daughter of Heather Gay from “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.”
Peacock proudly claims this as the first time a major U.S. streaming platform dives into the microdrama world, and it was only a matter of time. With the rise of microdrama apps from China, analysts predict 2026 to be the year they take off in the U.S. market. ReelShort hit a jaw-dropping $1.2 billion in consumer spending in 2025, up 119% from the previous year, while DramaBox pulled in $276 million in consumer spending, doubling its 2024 earnings.
These tiny dramas are making waves, even beyond apps. TikTok joined the microdrama game with PineDrama earlier this year, and Hollywood-backed Gamma Time secured $14 million in funding with support from big names like Alexis Ohanian, Kris Jenner, and Kim Kardashian.
But let’s be honest – not all microdramas are winners. Some are cheesy, cringeworthy, or just plain bad. It’s like a never-ending loop of clichés: bullied girl meets billionaire-werewolf, and love sparks when her glasses fall off. Think of it as the guilty pleasure TV on steroids. So, while microdramas may be the next big thing, quality doesn’t always come guaranteed.
