NBC Secures Additional NFL Game for Week 17, Peacock Exclusive Announcement

NBC has some exciting news regarding the NFL schedule for the upcoming season—it’s getting an extra game during Week 17! This game is being called the NFL Holiday Special and will be played on Saturday, January 2nd at 4:30 p.m. ET. What’s cool is that this game will air on both NBC and Peacock. And after that, Peacock will exclusively stream another NFL game in primetime at 8 p.m. ET. Keep an eye out for the teams playing in these games—they’ll be announced later this week when the NFL releases its full schedule on Thursday.
This announcement comes hot on the heels of Fox’s news that it’s adding two more regular-season NFL games this season. Interestingly, one of these games was originally part of a package that the league was considering splitting between Netflix and YouTube, but YouTube apparently had some reservations. And guess what? One of these games is among the four that ESPN had to give up as part of its NFL Media acquisition.
It’s worth noting that this will be the fourth season in a row that Peacock exclusively airs a regular-season NFL game. In total, it’s going to be the fifth exclusive NFL game for the streaming platform, including a Wild Card game back in January 2024.
Week 17 is now gearing up to feature three different NFL broadcasts produced by NBC: two games on Saturday and the usual Sunday Night Football showdown the following day. While this might seem out of the ordinary, it’s not the first time NBC has handled three games in one week. In fact, back in 2024, they produced three games in Week 1: the NFL Kickoff Game, a Peacock-exclusive game from Brazil, and Sunday Night Football to cap off the week.
And just earlier today, NBC announced that its first Sunday Night Football game of the season will kick off with the Dallas Cowboys facing off against the New York Giants. Ready for some football? You won’t want to miss the action on NBC and Peacock!
