Will Superfakes with Lucy Liu Gain Viewership on Peacock?
I recently caught up with Lucy Liu, and it’s always a treat to see her doing well. She’s currently in New York filming a new series called Superfakes. This mystery-thriller follows a working-class mom who sells counterfeits for money and becomes embroiled in the luxury black market.
While on set, Lucy was spotted with a striking Chanel bag. The question that comes to mind is: is it real or fake? If a show is centered around the knock-off market, do they incorporate actual fakes into the wardrobe? Or do they use authentic designer items to avoid glamorizing knock-offs? It’s a question I hope gets asked when the press for Superfakes kicks in. Are the luxury goods on the show authentic or counterfeit?
Created by Alice Ju, a producer known for Russian Doll and Beef, Superfakes boasts both an impressive creator and Lucy Liu as its star. With a track record like that, I’m expecting a healthy dose of style and drama from this series. Given Alice Ju’s past work and Lucy Liu’s leading role, the show seems bound to deliver a lot of intensity.
Apart from the involvement of the Safdie brothers as executive producers – which I have mixed feelings about – I’m thrilled to see Lucy Liu in a high-impact drama like Superfakes. My only wish is that it was on a different streaming platform than Peacock. Unfortunately, Peacock doesn’t have the same prestige as competitors like Apple TV+, making it harder for shows to stand out. Will Superfakes be able to break through on Peacock? That remains to be seen.
Despite the uncertainties about Peacock, Superfakes sounds intriguing. And seeing Lucy Liu on set in NYC, complete with that Chanel bag, only adds to the excitement surrounding the series.
