Barack Obama Takes on Larry David in HBO Sketch Show Teaser

Barack Obama is known for his political prowess, but even the former President wasn’t prepared for the comedic challenges of working with Larry David. In a teaser for the upcoming HBO sketch series “Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,” Obama humorously shares, “I have sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of the globe’s most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”

As reported by Variety in July 2025, David and Obama have joined forces for this comedy series to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The show’s logline explains, “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion…But then Larry David called.”

Set to premiere on June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max, the series will consist of seven episodes running through August 7. David, along with some of his “Curb Your Enthusiasm” co-stars and a lineup of guest actors, will delve into and poke fun at major events in U.S. history.

The show is written and executive produced by David and co-creator Jeff Schaffer, with Schaffer also directing. Executive producers include Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Ethan Lewis, and Vinnie Malhotra for Higher Ground.

This collaboration marks David’s return to HBO, following the success of his hit show “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
