MX Player’s journey began as a free streaming service focused on microdramas, eventually expanding to create original content like Rasbhari and Bhaukaal. Their standout hit, however, has been the Bobby Deol-led series, Aashram. In 2024, Prime Video acquired select MX Player assets and joined forces with Amazon miniTV, birthing Amazon MX Player, a new platform providing free-to-stream content. Existing miniTV shows then transitioned to the revamped Amazon MX Player.

Looking ahead, the integration of the two services will be seamless, bringing together Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD), Advertising Video on Demand (AVOD), Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD), and add-on subscriptions, all housed under one roof.

Specifically, the Amazon MX Player app on Android will retain its original local player and continue to offer AVOD content for free, with a rebranded look and a dedicated Prime Video interface. Users will have the option to subscribe to Prime to unlock an even broader selection. Conversely, the Amazon MX Player app on iOS, Living Room, and web apps will smoothly redirect users to the Prime Video platform.

As we move forward, this merger promises more coherence and convenience for viewers, as well as an even more extensive selection of content. The unification of Amazon Prime Video and Amazon MX Player under one banner solidifies their position as India’s premier streaming service, offering a rich tapestry of stories to cater to every viewer’s taste.
