Summer Movie Guide 2022: Upcoming Movies in Theaters and Streaming from May to August

This summer at the movies is shaping up to be a wild ride, with Minions turning into filmmakers, the Mandalorian fighting for good, and Matt Damon trying to find his way home yet again. Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Tom Holland are all over the big screen, but it seems like Peter Parker has been forgotten – at least in the movies! The hope is that audiences will not only remember but will be eager to find out what happens next for Spider-Man.

Hollywood’s summer movie season is kicking off in a big way, starting in early May with “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” While it’s not a superhero movie, the sequel might just be as iconic as Miranda Priestly herself. May also brings us a concert film from Billie Eilish, the first “Star Wars” movie in seven years, and a D-Day drama featuring Brendan Fraser as Dwight D. Eisenhower.

June is packed with live-action He-Man, a musical from John Carney with Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd, an original Steven Spielberg sci-fi extravaganza, and the return of Supergirl and Woody and Buzz.

July is bringing Minions to 1920s Hollywood, Moana, and a double dose of Holland and Zendaya in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and Christopher Nolan’s take on “The Odyssey.” In Nolan’s version, Holland plays Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, while Zendaya embodies the goddess Athena.

August finishes off the summer season with some laughs in “Super Troopers 3,” a supernatural horror film in “The End of Oak Street,” a new movie from Jane Schoenbrun, and two very different dog-centered films for distinct audiences. One is “PAW Patrol,” the other is a Ridley Scott-directed post-apocalyptic survival film.

And that’s not even considering the numerous streaming options available, like a Ben Stiller pickleball movie, the return of Enola Holmes, and a John Krasinski Jack Ryan movie.

With all these options to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide what to watch. Stay tuned for more details and recommendations to help navigate the many choices both in theaters and at home.

In May, movie buffs can look forward to a variety of releases like:
