Stolen Peacocks found safe in rural Alberta ditch by RCMP

A daring theft of two magnificent peacocks has a happy ending, as Pete and Hilda are back home after a wild ride through rural Alberta. The feathered pair, along with a horse and donkey, were whisked away by a truck thief in Stony Plain, Alberta, but thanks to a heartwarming rescue effort, they are now safe and sound.

The larger animals, Spirit the horse and Badonkadonk the donkey, were quickly located not far from where they were taken, but the search for Pete and Hilda continued until they were found cozying up in a roadside ditch near Duffield, Alberta. A vigilant family spotted them and contacted the authorities, leading to a joyous reunion with their owner, Dawn Condon.

Despite their ordeal, Pete and Hilda are doing well, with just a few scratches to show for their adventure. Dawn is over the moon to have her beloved birds back and is grateful to the family who found them. These birds have been with her through thick and thin, making their safe return all the more special.

The brave birds were en route to Prince George, British Columbia, under the watchful eye of Dawn’s niece when they were taken. The family had a close call, realizing the truck and trailer were missing in the morning. Luckily, the peafowl were found soon after, much to everyone’s relief.

Pete and Hilda aren’t just any birds—they serve as protectors for Dawn’s flock of chickens and guinea fowl, keeping predators at bay with their majestic presence. Their role as guard birds is crucial, adding an extra layer of security to the farm.

As the investigation into the theft continues, everyone involved remains hopeful that justice will be served. The RCMP has released surveillance images of the thief and is urging the public to keep an eye out for a white 2005 Ford F350 truck. Despite the challenges, the focus remains on ensuring that Pete and Hilda can return to their normal routine.

The heartwarming tale of Pete and Hilda’s safe return is a reminder of the power of community and the resilience of these remarkable birds. Let’s hope that the thief is caught and held accountable, bringing closure to this unusual chapter in the lives of two very special peacocks.
