Nikki Glaser Transforms into Pop Star for ‘Good Girl’ Hulu Special

Stand-up comedy specials have always followed a pretty straightforward formula—put the comic on stage, set up the cameras, and record the set. But with Nikki Glaser’s new Hulu special, “Good Girl,” things are getting a serious upgrade. Done+Dusted, the production company behind the special, is taking the genre to a whole new level to match Glaser’s meteoric rise in the comedy world.

Glaser first teamed up with Done+Dusted for her HBO special, “Someday You’ll Die,” which executive producer David Jammy calls a game-changer. That special, released in May 2024, came hot on the heels of Glaser’s buzzed-about appearance on “The Roast of Tom Brady,” catapulting her to new levels of fame.

Now, with “Good Girl,” Glaser’s team is really stepping up their game. Fresh off back-to-back hosting gigs at the Golden Globes, Glaser and the Done+Dusted crew are flipping the script on how stand-up specials are made.

Instead of just filming a comic on stage, they’re treating the special like a pop star concert. The goal? To tell a story, both through the material and visually. Glaser is feeling the difference too. She says working with Done+Dusted made her realize she had more potential than she knew.

The creative team they assembled for the special is top-notch. Production designer Elina Billingsley, lighting designer Bobby Dickinson, and director Hamish Hamilton are all veterans of big-time events like the Oscars and the Grammys. Plus, Glaser’s entrance onto the stage is nothing short of pop star-level dramatic.

The special is structured like a journey, with different chapters mirroring the emotional shifts in Glaser’s material. And as she hits her stride on stage at 40, that material is punchier, raunchier, and more self-assured than ever.

As for the title, “Good Girl” was a deliberate choice. Just like the jokes in the special, the title reveals its full meaning over time. There’s even one alternate title that didn’t make the final cut—”The Dangler.” You’ll have to watch the special to find out what that one’s all about.
