Tim Cook to become Apple Executive Chairman; John Ternus appointed as Apple CEO

On September 1, 2026, Tim Cook will transition to the role of Apple’s Executive Chairman, while John Ternus will step into the position of CEO. This decision was made unanimously by Apple’s Board of Directors after careful succession planning. Cook will continue as CEO over the summer to ensure a smooth handover to Ternus.
