Gay Grifters Series American Hustlers in Development on Hulu and WBTV

“American Hustlers” is a new scripted series in the works at Warner Bros. Television for Hulu, and it’s based on the real-life story of a crime ring known as the “Gay Grifters.” The group, led by Kaushal Niroula and Danny Garcia, were mostly involved in financial scams, pretending to be art dealers, real estate developers, and even Nepalese royalty. Things took a dark turn when they targeted Palm Springs art dealer Cliff Lambert, resulting in his tragic murder in December 2008.

The series, inspired by the true crime podcast and book called “Until Someone Gets Hurt” by Sherrie Lueder, will explore the exploits of Niroula and Garcia as they join forces with a group of eccentric con artists to swindle unsuspecting victims out of millions of dollars and property for over a decade. As their crimes escalated to murder, they seemed unstoppable until one man, Tyson Wrensch, decided to dedicate his life to bringing them to justice.

Jim Campolongo, known for his work on “The Blacklist” and “The Sandman,” is writing the series, drawing inspiration from Frequency Machine’s 2025 podcast “American Hustlers” hosted by Kim Kanter and Julie Golden, as well as Sherrie Lueder’s book. The show promises to be a thrilling and captivating exploration of a notorious crime ring and the pursuit of justice.
