China launches new streaming channel for pets

China’s love for pets is undeniable, with households spending an average of more than 3,000 yuan ($435) on each dog and over 2,000 yuan on each cat in 2025. Now, furry companions can enjoy their own dedicated streaming channel, “PetTV,” launched by Chinese tech giant Tencent.

From footage of a duckling paddling in the bath to happy pooches exploring their neighborhood, PetTV offers a curated selection of programs to keep pets entertained while their owners are away. The channel, available on Tencent Video, China’s leading online streaming platform, aims to provide companionship for pets or serve as a fun activity for both humans and animals.

“This is all dog content, when will the cat program be on?” asked one enthusiastic viewer in the chatroom on PetTV’s streaming page. Tencent Video promotes PetTV as a “24-hour happiness hub specially designed for your furry kids,” with colors, refresh rates, and audio frequencies tailored to meet the specific needs of dogs and cats.

Subscribers of Tencent Video can access PetTV, with 66 percent of dog owners reportedly leaving the TV on for their pets when they are out. While PetTV is a popular choice, there are other pet-specific media options available in the market.
