Homesteading Business: Clay County Family’s Journey from Seeds to Peacocks

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. – Remember that old saying “from little seeds grow mighty trees”? Well, in Chelsa Moody’s case, it was more like “from little seeds grew a bustling hobby farm in Keystone Heights”. How did it all start? With a simple request from her daughter for some seeds. Fast forward, and now their Very Moody Farm, LLC is a vibrant homestead filled with a variety of animals and a whole lot of heart.

The move from city to country living allowed the Moody family to expand their homesteading dreams. Starting with just a rabbit, they quickly found themselves with 14 chickens, followed by a growing goat family. Now, their backyard is a colorful menagerie including Ameraucana chickens in all shades, pheasants, and even peacocks – a special request from Chelsa’s husband.

Chelsa describes Very Moody Farm as a mix between a passion project and a small business, jokingly calling herself a “professional hobby farmer”. They sell everything they produce, from eggs to animals, and customers even make the trek from surrounding areas to purchase directly from them.

Life on the homestead is nothing short of entertaining, with goats in the house and traditional pets like cats and dogs. Matthew, Chelsa’s husband, is all in, supporting her every step of the way. He’s proud to watch her love for the farm turn into a successful operation, and he credits her dedication and hard work for their flourishing business.
