Norwich Street Dust Due to Anglia Square Demolition

A massive cloud of dust covered parts of Magdalen Street in Norwich recently, causing concern among local residents and business owners. The dust was a result of the demolition of a multi-storey car park at Anglia Square to make way for new developments.

Some passers-by complained of breathing issues and watery eyes and noses after the dust cloud descended unexpectedly. Workers and traders in the area were forced to shut their doors to prevent the dust from coming inside buildings.

Despite concerns about asbestos, Norwich City Council assured the public that any hazardous materials had been safely removed prior to demolition. The council also attributed the dust cloud to blustery weather conditions that exacerbated the issue.

Videos of the dust cloud caught by nearby residents, like Jimmy Mavroudis, showed the extent of the problem. Many described feeling unprepared for the sudden release of dust and expressed sympathy for those directly affected.

Businesses along Magdalen Street, such as Roys of Magdalen Street, closed temporarily to protect customers and staff from the dust. Lisa Mann and Paul Wade, who run units in the area, described the noise and dust as unexpected but thankfully short-lived.

While the situation caused inconvenience for those in the vicinity, Norwich City Council emphasized its commitment to delivering new homes, retail, leisure, and community spaces in the area. The redevelopment of Anglia Square aims to create a vibrant and thriving neighborhood for the people of Norwich.
