Oscars Relocate to Peacock Theater

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will be finding a new home starting with the 2029 ceremony. Instead of the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland, where it has been held since 2002, the Oscars will now take place at the larger, 7,100-seat Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. This move is part of a ten-year deal with L.A. Live owner AEG and will bring about significant upgrades to the theater’s stage, sound, lighting, backstage facilities, and lobbies. Additionally, red carpet events will be expanded into the plaza, offering a more grandiose experience for attendees and viewers alike.

The switch to the Peacock Theater coincides with the Oscars’ transition from being broadcast on ABC to being broadcast on YouTube in 2029. What’s more, the 2029 ceremony will be the 101st Oscars event, adding an extra layer of significance to the venue change. It’s worth noting that the 2021 ceremony was an exception to the Dolby Theatre tradition, as it was held at Union Station due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before making its home at the Dolby Theatre, the Oscars bounced between the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Shrine Auditorium. With this new chapter at the Peacock Theater, the Oscars are set to continue their legacy of honoring excellence in the film industry while also bringing a fresh and exciting vibe to the ceremony. Stay tuned for what promises to be a memorable decade of Oscars magic at their new home in Downtown Los Angeles!
