Robin Roberts: Inside the Making of Hulu’s New Pat Summitt Film

Robin Roberts had a vision to create a film honoring her close friend, the legendary Lady Vols coach, Pat Summitt. This dream began back in 2016, shortly after Summitt’s passing, when Roberts explored the idea of a project centered around the Hall of Fame coach who led Tennessee’s women’s basketball program.

Fast forward to 2020, plans were set in motion, only to be halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as Roberts reflected on the timing, she realized it was all meant to be. With the current surge in women’s basketball, Roberts saw an opportunity to celebrate Summitt’s impactful legacy, highlighting her pivotal role in the growth of the sport.

The documentary, “Breaking Glass: The Pat Summitt Story,” is set to premiere on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on Wednesday. Executive produced by Roberts and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter, the film aims to showcase Summitt’s remarkable life and lasting influence. Following its debut, the documentary will air on ESPN2 on March 29 and ESPN on April 5.

As Roberts expressed, the documentary’s release aligns perfectly with the excitement of March Madness and Women’s History Month. It precedes the upcoming 10-year anniversary of Summitt’s passing, offering viewers an intimate look at the pioneering coach and her enduring impact on the world of women’s basketball.
