Clear XR Introduces Apple Vision Pro’s Foveated Streaming to OpenXR PC VR Games
Clear XR is making waves in the world of PC VR gaming by bringing Apple Vision Pro’s foveated streaming feature to OpenXR applications. If you’re an owner of an Nvidia RTX 40 or 50 series GPU, you’re in luck! This exciting development allows you to take advantage of this cutting-edge technology for a superior gaming experience.
Previously, gamers could stream their SteamVR games to their Apple Vision Pro using ALVR, a free and open-source tool available on the App Store. However, ALVR lacked support for the foveated streaming feature that Apple introduced in visionOS 26.4. Thanks to Clear XR, users can now benefit from this feature, which leverages eye tracking to prioritize image quality and compression where it matters most – where your eyes are focused.
Clear XR, developed by Stuart Charlton, taps into Nvidia’s CloudXR SDK to enable foveated streaming on the Apple Vision Pro. This SDK is also used by developers of popular games like X-Plane and iRacing, who are incorporating foveated streaming for enhanced gameplay. While Clear XR is accessible to users with Nvidia Ada and Blackwell GPU architectures (RTX 40-series and 50-series cards), those with other GPUs may need to wait a bit longer to give it a try.
For those eager to dive into the world of foveated streaming on their Apple Vision Pro, Clear XR’s visionOS client can be found on Apple’s TestFlight system, while the Windows PC server app is available on GitHub. This innovation promises to deliver exceptional image quality and a newfound level of immersion for PC VR enthusiasts.
