Race Across The World series: Testing relationships on a global trek to Mongolia

Contestants on the new season of the BBC One series Race Across The World are gearing up for an epic adventure unlike any other. Five new civilian pairs are taking on the challenge of traveling 12,000km from Palermo, Sicily, to the remote village of Hatgal in Mongolia. The catch? No mobile phones, flights, luxury accommodations, or bank cards allowed. And they have to stick to a strict budget of less than £26 per person per day.

Among the pairs competing are Mark and Margo, a retired architect and hypnotherapist from London and Liverpool, respectively. Despite being in-laws for four decades, their relationship has been rocky. However, caring for a loved one brought them closer, and now they’re navigating this challenge together.

The race has tested their bond in new ways, but they’ve found a surprising comfort in each other’s company. For Margo, it’s been like going on holiday with a stranger and discovering a whole new side to their relationship.

Other teams include childhood friends, siblings, and a father-daughter duo, each facing their own unique challenges along the way. The experience has pushed them to rely on each other and communicate effectively in order to succeed in this grueling adventure.
