Canadians Preferring Ad-Supported Streaming as Prices Increase: Study
According to a recent report, in 2025 Canadian customers were charged about seven per cent more by the top streaming platforms compared to the previous year. But hey, don’t worry—despite the higher prices, folks are still making the switch from traditional cable and satellite TV to streaming services like Netflix, Crave, and Disney Plus.
The report, known as the Couch Potato Report, highlights how streaming companies are nudging viewers towards plans that include ads. Sure, it might sound annoying at first, but these ad-inclusive packages actually cost less for subscribers. Plus, they bring in extra revenue for the streaming giants by selling commercial spots.
On average, packages with advertisements are about 42 per cent cheaper than the ad-free options. So, if you don’t mind a few commercials here and there, you could save some cash while enjoying your favorite shows.
By the end of last year, it’s estimated that almost half of Canadian households had cut ties with traditional TV providers and were solely relying on streaming services for their entertainment fix. Looks like the streaming revolution is here to stay!
