Samsung Users to Share Media with iPhones using AirDrop
Samsung users may soon have a much easier time sharing media with their friends who use iPhones, thanks to a new feature that’s in the works. Reports suggest that Samsung is working on a way to allow Galaxy devices to share photos, videos, and files directly with Apple devices, similar to how AirDrop works.
This feature is expected to roll out with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series through a software update. This update could make it a breeze to share media between Samsung phones and iPhones, without needing to rely on third-party apps. This could really improve how well Samsung and Apple devices can connect with each other.
The President and COO of Samsung’s mobile division, Won-joon Choi, hinted at this new feature during a press event in Japan. He mentioned that this feature might be introduced gradually, but once it’s available, users will be able to easily swap videos, photos, and documents between Galaxy phones and Apple devices using Samsung’s Quick Share feature.
This update would make it much simpler for Samsung users to share media with iPhone users, and is anticipated to work with not just iPhones, but also Mac computers and iPads. To make this feature work, users will need to just activate AirDrop visibility on their Apple devices, while Samsung phones may briefly disconnect from Wi-Fi during the transfer.
This move from Samsung is a big step towards improving cross-platform connectivity between Android and iOS devices, which has been a challenge for many users. Google has already started enabling Pixel devices to share files with iPhones through peer-to-peer transfers, and plans to expand this capability to more Android devices. On the other hand, Apple’s AirDrop feature has been a key selling point for its ecosystem, helping to keep users loyal and influencing their purchase decisions.
Samsung has been promoting its Smart Switch tool to simplify data transfers from iPhones to Galaxy devices, but this upcoming AirDrop-like feature could make sharing media between Samsung and Apple devices even easier for users. Keep an eye out for updates on this feature with the release of the Galaxy S26 series.
