Couple in Cherry Hill, New Jersey Seeks Owner of Peacock
At the Fiorentinos’ home in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, there’s no shortage of birds, animals, and furry friends, but a new feathered guest is stealing the show. The couple is currently housing a lost peacock that has been wandering around their property for a few days. They’ve even put out food for the bird, and they suspect he may be sleeping in their garage.
Jean Fiorentino first spotted the peacock while making his morning coffee, and he was shocked by the unexpected visitor. He called his wife down to witness the majestic sight and took a photo for their grandkids to enjoy. The couple was initially floored, then amazed at the presence of this stunning bird, whom they have affectionately named Pete.
“We have had a couple of vultures because we’re on the edge of the woods. We’ve had some owls, lots of bird nests, but nothing this size, obviously except for Thanksgiving,” said Vivian Fiorentino. She has been keeping a close eye on Pete, who has been happily snacking on birdseed and cat food while exploring their property, which includes a 300-year-old farmhouse.
Despite peafowls being native to warmer climates in Sri Lanka, India, and Southeast Asia, Pete seems to be enjoying his time in the Cherry Hill area. Other residents have also spotted the peacock wandering about and have taken to social media to inquire if anyone is missing their bird.
When reaching out to state wildlife agencies and local animal control for more information, CBS News Philadelphia found out that the authorities were aware of Pete’s presence. The Fiorentinos suspect that the friendly bird might belong to someone in the area, and they are eager to return him to his rightful owner. For now, Pete seems to be enjoying the quiet neighborhood and the company of his temporary hosts.
