Amazon Prime Video Update: Negative Impact on 4K Content
Streaming services have become increasingly popular over the past few years, but with that popularity, we’ve also seen prices go up. Amazon Prime Video is the latest to make changes, raising the price of its ad-free tier from $2.99 to $4.99 in the US, starting on April 10. This upgraded tier, now called Amazon Prime Video Ultra, offers access to 4K content, removes ads, increases offline downloads to 100, allows for five concurrent streams, and includes Dolby Atmos audio.
Unfortunately, this means that 4K content is now behind a paywall and no longer included in the basic free package of Prime membership. Amazon claims that this pricing structure aligns with other major streaming services, giving customers flexibility in how they choose to watch. Disney+ and Netflix have also limited 4K video to more expensive packages, so Amazon isn’t the first to make this move.
As of now, this price increase is only in the US, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it makes its way to the UK soon. So, if you’re a fan of 4K content on Prime Video, you might have to adjust your subscription to access it. Stay tuned for more updates on streaming services and how these changes could impact your viewing experience.
