Paramount Acquires Tyler Perry Stake in BET+ for Merger with Paramount+

Paramount Skydance has recently acquired ownership of BET and will be merging the content from BET+ into the Paramount+ streaming service in June. As part of this transition, Tyler Perry has sold his minority ownership stake in BET+ to Paramount, following a 2019 production deal that gave him a 25% stake in the streaming service. The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

BET+ currently offers two subscription options, priced at $5.99/month with ads or $9.99/month without ads, providing viewers with over 1,000 hours of programming. The streaming service was launched in September 2019, just before the merge of Viacom and CBS to create Paramount Global.

In a statement, a Paramount representative expressed excitement about expanding the reach of BET content through Paramount+. They highlighted Tyler Perry as a valuable partner, mentioning that he will continue to be involved in programming under a new agreement.

BET president Louis Carr also addressed the merger, sharing in a staff memo that Paramount+ will serve as the new home for BET content. Perry’s representatives declined to comment on the news, which was initially reported by Deadline.
