Jason Momoa and band perform live in Waikīkī

You might recognize him as Aquaman or Kaʻiana in the Apple TV+ series “Chief of War,” but did you know that Jason Momoa is also a guitarist in the classic rock band Öof Tatatá? On March 17, the band will be making their debut at the Blue Note Hawaii on St. Patrick’s Day. The trio consists of longtime friends Momoa, Mike Hayes, and Kenny Dale.

Actress Frankie Adams shared with Aloha State Daily that Momoa often jammed on guitar with Temuera Morrison during breaks on the set of “The Wrecking Crew,” which premiered on Prime Video on Jan. 27. “In between takes, we’d be listening to music and singing, and they’d be playing the instruments,” Adams said. “I love music. I think it really brought the energy up on set.”

Born in Oʻahu and raised in Iowa, Momoa returned to Hawaii after high school and landed a lead role in “Baywatch.” Despite projects like “The Wrecking Crew” and “Chief of War” being set in Hawaii, most of the filming took place in Hawaii and New Zealand. Momoa had hoped to film more of “Chief of War” in Hawaii, but budget constraints prevented it, according to Brian Keaulana, one of the series’ producers and Momoa’s uncle.

Currently, Momoa is busy filming “Protecting Jared,” where he portrays a Hawaiian security guard protecting himself and a tech billionaire, played by Andy Samberg, from a kidnapping scheme.

Seating for Öof Tatatá’s debut at Blue Note Hawaii is on a first-come, first-served basis, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the show starting at 7 p.m. There is a $20 food or beverage minimum per person, and the show is already sold out. However, you can join the waitlist for tickets.
