Actress Porter Kelly’s Appearance on “The Pitt” Event at Northern Today
In the latest episode of “The Pitt” on HBO Max, actress Porter Kelly, an NMU 1993 alumna, shines in her role as Margaret “Hail Mary” Walker. This drama series has been a hit, snagging both a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy for best drama series. The show delves into the hectic lives of healthcare professionals in a Pittsburgh hospital, balancing personal issues, office dynamics, and the strain of caring for severely ill patients.
Excitingly, Kelly is also set to make an appearance on an upcoming episode of “CIA” (CBS), a spinoff of the popular “FBI” franchise. As a member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors Equity Association, she brings a wealth of experience to her performances and also serves as an Emmy-voting member of the Television Academy. Back in October 2023, Kelly was among the first four inductees into the NMU Theatre and Dance Hall of Fame, boasting an impressive nearly 50 TV and film credits at that time.
In a candid interview featured in an NMU alumni magazine, Kelly revealed that she owes her acting career to her time at Northern. Initially pursuing a path in English education, she found herself drawn into the world of theater after captivating performances and engaging classes caught her interest. One standout role she reminisces about is Little Red Riding Hood in the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods.
Despite a string of successful guest roles on various TV shows, spanning both comedic and dramatic genres, Kelly remains focused on her ultimate goal of landing a regular series role.
