Thorns Defeat CF Monterrey Femenil 5-1 in Preseason Match
The Portland Thorns had an impressive 5-1 win against C.F. Monterrey in their final preseason game before the 2026 NWSL season. The team came out strong with a mix of regular players and trialists, including new defender Molly McDougal and midfielder Jenni Immethun, Renee Lyles, and Farrah Walters. Forward Alexa Spaanstra scored early with a penalty kick, setting the tone for the match. Renee Lyles scored two goals assisted by M.A. Vignola, and Mallie McKenzie and Lyles again found the back of the net to secure the win before halftime.
After the break, there were key player returns with defender Marie Müller and forward Sophia Wilson taking the field to the delight of the fans at Providence Park. While there were no additional goals in the second half, the Thorns maintained control of the game and showcased their strength.
