NBC Names Jason Benetti Top MLB Announcer

NBC Sports has tapped Jason Benetti, an accomplished play-by-play announcer for major networks like Fox Sports and ESPN, to lead its MLB coverage starting on March 26. Benetti, who has provided commentary for teams such as the Tigers and White Sox, will make his debut as NBC returns to live baseball action. His role as the lead announcer will involve calling Sunday Night Baseball games alongside various color commentators from local broadcasts.

Despite being under contract with Fox, Benetti was granted an early release to take on this exciting opportunity with NBC. While he transitions to his new role, Benetti will continue as the lead play-by-play announcer for the Tigers. Known for his versatility, Benetti has previously covered MLB games for NBC/Peacock, calling the 18-game MLB Sunday Leadoff package in 2022 and the Olympic Games from Tokyo.

Joining a star-studded lineup at NBC, Benetti will work alongside studio analysts Joey Votto, Clayton Kershaw, and Anthony Rizzo, with Bob Costas serving as host. The trio of Votto, Kershaw, and Rizzo, who recently retired from playing, will contribute as pregame studio analysts for MLB wild-card telecasts and select regular-season games. Costas, a renowned baseball announcer, will host the Sunday Night Baseball pregame show as NBC makes its return to baseball coverage after 25 years.
