Is Daniel Zellhuber the Worst Betting Favorite in UFC History?
There are some fighters you just don’t bet your money on. Unfortunately for UFC lightweight Daniel Zellhuber, he is one of those fighters.
On Saturday, Zellhuber stepped into the Octagon at UFC Mexico City hoping to break a two-fight losing streak. Facing off against 39-year-old King Green, who had a mixed record in his last five UFC fights, Zellhuber seemed like the safe bet with his striking skills and long reach. That’s why he closed at -410 to secure the win.
However, things took a surprising turn as Green delivered a devastating TKO finish late in the second round. Zellhuber and those who put their money on him were left stunned as Green walked away with the upset win.
What makes this defeat even more alarming is that this isn’t the first time Zellhuber has disappointed as a heavy betting favorite. In his previous fight before UFC Mexico City, he suffered a decision loss to Michael Johnson, closing as a massive -900 favorite but landing fewer significant strikes than his opponent.
In 2022, Zellhuber experienced a similar upset when he lost a decision to UFC lightweight Trey Ogden in his debut fight, despite being an undefeated -430 favorite. Fortunately, he bounced back with three consecutive wins.
While Zellhuber is undoubtedly a talented fighter, his track record as a betting favorite leaves much to be desired. It seems like betting on his fights might be a risky proposition.
