Bridgerton Showrunner Addresses Speculation on ‘Recasting’ Key Roles
The showrunner of Bridgerton, Jess Brownell, recently addressed speculation about potential recasting of key roles in the series. While some core cast members have stayed on for multiple seasons, notable departures include Regé-Jean Page (Duke of Hastings) after season one and Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne) after season two.
Fans have been curious about the possibility of these roles being recast to incorporate the characters back into the Bridgerton world. However, Brownell clarified that the show is not interested in recasting these roles. She emphasized that it would be a disservice to the work that Page and Dynevor put into their characters in previous seasons.
Brownell mentioned that while they would love to potentially have Page and Dynevor back at some point, they want to ensure that when they do return, it is for a substantial and meaningful storyline. She acknowledged that having them simply return for a brief appearance wouldn’t feel right and emphasized the importance of bringing back characters when there is a significant and impactful arc for them.
Since leaving Bridgerton, Page and Dynevor have pursued other projects in cinema, with Page starring in films like “Black Bag” and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” while Dynevor has appeared in projects such as “Fair Play.”
Brownell noted that while characters may not physically appear on screen, they are still present in the world of Bridgerton. She expressed the desire to find the right moment to bring back all characters at some point in the future.
Bridgerton’s fourth season has garnered mixed reviews from critics, with some acknowledging the show’s ability to reimagine the period drama genre in a unique manner. The series, created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland, continues to be available for streaming on Netflix.
