Hulu Developing Animated Series “Swap Meet” with Ralph Barbosa as Star

Hulu is working on an exciting new animated series called Swap Meet, featuring comedian Ralph Barbosa in a starring role. According to Deadline, Barbosa will also be an executive producer on the show, which is in development at Hulu and written by Isaac Gonzalez.

In Swap Meet, we’ll follow Ralph, a character played by Barbosa, as he teams up with the Cortez family. This lively, proudly blue-collar Mexican American clan all work various jobs at the Eastgate Swap Meet, a unique retail hub bursting with countless goods and services. It’s sure to be a blast!

The series is being produced in collaboration with 20th Television Animation, with support from Sony Pictures Television. Barbosa has a solid history with Hulu, having recently premiered his stand-up special, Ralph Barbosa: Planet Bosa, on the platform. Meanwhile, Gonzalez has a diverse portfolio that includes both animated and live-action projects like Bordertown, Legends of Chamberlain Heights, The Gordita Chronicles, and Mr. Iglesias.

Swap Meet is just one of Hulu’s recent animated projects, alongside Deano, a fresh adult animated comedy from Dean Thomas and David Ferrier. Plus, Freeform has an intriguing new show on the horizon called That Thrifting Show with Lara Spencer, bringing together elements of Antique’s Roadshow and HGTV for fans to enjoy.

And that’s not all – there’s a new Diane Sawyer special honoring actor Eric Dane available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. Hulu is also working on a series adaptation of the 2023 horror novel, The Haunting of Alejandra, written by V. Castro. Additionally, the reboot of The X-Files by Ryan Coogler is moving forward, with Hulu recently giving it a pilot order.
