Airtel to Expand High-Scale NBFC Platform with Major Push
A major investment has been announced by Bharti Airtel, a prominent telecommunications company in India. They have big plans for their Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), Airtel Money Limited, with a capital infusion of Rs 20,000 crore over the next few years. Airtel will contribute 70% of this amount, with the remaining 30% coming from the promoter group through Bharti Enterprises Limited.
With a strong focus on digital assets, advanced data analytics powered by 500+ data scientists, and extensive operational expertise, Airtel is eager to enhance access to easy, secure, and innovative digital financial services throughout India. Over the last couple of years, Airtel has developed a high-performance credit engine that is regarded as one of India’s most robust lending service provider models.
Their platform has already seen massive adoption, with over ₹9,000 crore in disbursements. This success can be attributed to their top-notch underwriting models, disciplined portfolio management, and real-time risk monitoring. Gopal Vittal, Executive Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel, expressed confidence in their ability to combine technology, data, and customer trust to make a positive impact on a national level.
Airtel Money was granted an NBFC license by the Reserve Bank of India on February 13, 2026, marking a significant step in expanding financial services in India. Airtel aims to deepen financial inclusion and serve underserved consumers in a market where the credit to GDP ratio stands at 53%.
This strategic move aligns with Airtel’s commitment to leveraging its vast customer base and diversifying its business portfolio. By integrating the NBFC’s disbursement process with their existing lending service provider platform, Airtel aims to set new standards for digital financial services in India. The company is dedicated to maintaining operational segregation between the two services to ensure a seamless and efficient customer experience.
Airtel’s focus on technology, data, and customer-centric approaches positions them to lead the way in digital financial services. This expansion reflects their dedication to building trust, fostering innovation, and promoting financial inclusion on a national scale.
