Affordable Alternatives: Budget-Friendly Lenses for Sony, Nikon, and More

Camera lenses can get pretty pricey, especially for mirrorless cameras. I remember when I first got my hands on a Nikon Z camera and splurged on the versatile 24-70mm F2.8 S lens. It served me well for a while, but eventually, I wanted to expand my lens collection without breaking the bank. That’s when I discovered Viltrox, a lesser-known brand that offers high-quality lenses at a fraction of the cost of big-name brands like Nikon.

I’ve been using Viltrox prime lenses for a while now, and I have to say, I’m impressed. My favorite is the new 35mm F1.2 Lab, which is perfect for reportage photography. Despite being one of Viltrox’s pricier lenses for mirrorless cameras, it’s still only a third of the price of Nikon’s equivalent. And the quality is just as good, if not better.

Viltrox specializes in autofocus lenses for full-frame and APS-C mirrorless cameras, with a focus on Sony E, Nikon Z, and Fujifilm X mounts. They’ve even released their first L-mount lens, the AF 16mm F1.8. All Viltrox lenses are well-built, produce sharp images, and come at a much lower cost than other brands. The only trade-off is that Viltrox lenses can be a bit heavier, and autofocus speed in older models might be slightly slower. But for the price, it’s a compromise I’m willing to make.

Currently, Viltrox only offers prime lenses, with focal lengths ranging from 14mm to 135mm for full-frame cameras and 9mm to 75mm for APS-C cameras.
