Edith Bowman Pleads for Return of Grandad’s Ashes Case

Scottish broadcaster Edith Bowman is making a heartfelt plea for the return of a stolen suitcase that holds special significance—her grandfather’s ashes. The bag went missing during her train journey from London Paddington to Kemble, a village in the Cotswolds. Edith took to Instagram to share her frustration, urging the person responsible to return it and explaining that CCTV and British Transport Police were involved.

In a subsequent post, Edith’s distress was palpable as she realized the sentimental value of the suitcase’s contents, which included a pinkie ring holding her grandad’s ashes. She appealed to anyone who may have seen someone with “an old school case that’s green, dark green with brown straps” to come forward, sharing specific train stations where sightings may have occurred.

Edith has a close bond with her late grandfather, fondly known as ‘Grandad Bowman’. She cherished weekends spent at his Fife hotel, where he would make her oatcakes, hot milk, and read bedtime stories. Despite his stroke at the age of seven, he lived for another 27 years, and Edith was by his side during his final moments, reflecting on the bittersweet memories with gratitude.

Known for her work on BBC Radio 1 and currently hosting the podcast Soundtracking, Edith Bowman is well-loved for her engaging storytelling. If you have any information about the missing suitcase, please reach out. Let’s come together to help Edith recover this precious piece of her family history.
