Former Pistons Forward Named Hall of Fame Finalist: First-Time Candidate

Former Detroit Pistons forward, Blake Griffin, received exciting news this week as he was named a finalist for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026. This is Griffin’s first time being considered for this prestigious honor, and he has a strong case based on his impressive career stats.

Griffin, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, earned the title of NBA Rookie of the Year in 2011 and went on to be selected for the All-Star Game six times. Throughout his 13-year career, he amassed over 14,500 points, 6,100 rebounds, and 3,000 assists, showcasing his versatility and impact on the court.

Despite facing some injuries during his prime, Griffin was known as one of the top players in the league, especially during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2018, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons, where he continued to excel, posting career-best numbers in the 2018-19 season.

During his time with the Pistons, Griffin played 140 games and helped lead the team to the playoffs in 2019. His contributions to the franchise were significant, and his impact was felt both on and off the court. After retiring from professional basketball in 2024, Griffin transitioned to a role as a panelist for NBA on Prime Video, where he continues to be engaged with the sport he loves.

In addition to Griffin, other notable finalists for the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 include WNBA MVPs Candace Parker and Elena Delle Donne, as well as Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers and NBA veteran A’mare Stoudemire. The final inductees will be announced during a televised broadcast in April, with the enshrinement ceremony scheduled for August 2026.

It’s an exciting time for basketball fans as we await the official announcement of this year’s Hall of Fame class, and it’s clear that Blake Griffin has left a lasting legacy on the sport that may soon be honored with this prestigious recognition.
