Detroit’s GameAbove Sports Bowl Canceled After 29 Seasons
The GameAbove Sports Bowl, a college football tradition in Detroit, has reportedly come to an end after 29 seasons. It started back in 1997 as the Motor City Bowl at the Pontiac Silverdome and later made its way to Ford Field in 2002. Over the years, it underwent name changes and attracted different sponsors like Little Caesars Pizza Bowl and the Quick Lane Bowl until its recent title as the GameAbove Sports Bowl for the last two seasons.
The final edition of the bowl saw Northwestern triumph over Central Michigan with a score of 34-7 this past December. This bowl game typically showcased teams from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and had connections to various conferences like the Big Ten and ACC in recent years.
Unfortunately, the GameAbove Sports Bowl is not the only one to say goodbye recently. It joins the LA Bowl and the Bahamas Bowl, which both ceased operations in the past year. A bittersweet end to a long-standing college football tradition in Detroit.
