Men’s Hockey Hosts Niagara in Tuesday AHA Matchup

The RIT Men’s Hockey team is gearing up to face off against Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) rival Niagara this Tuesday in their only game of the week. Sitting in second place in the AHA standings with just four regular-season games left, the Tigers are aiming to secure a first-round postseason bye and earn a home quarterfinal series for the conference tournament with a solid performance.

After a tough 6-2 loss to Army last Friday, the Tigers bounced back with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory in Saturday’s rematch. Niagara, on the other hand, split their latest AHA doubleheader, losing 2-1 in overtime to Air Force but coming back with a 4-2 win the following day.

If you’re looking to catch the action live, the game will be available for streaming on FloHockey and FloHockey’s FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) channel. This broadcast serves as an initial test run to explore future collaborations between the AHA and FloHockey. You can tune in on various platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Fubo, Bell Fibe TV in Canada, and YouTube.

RIT’s senior forward Simon Isabelle shined in their recent victory over Army, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. He was supported by first-year forward Evan Konyen, who not only scored a goal but also set up the winning shot. The Tigers’ goalie, Jakub Krbeck, made a total of 31 saves during the game, including some crucial stops in the third period and overtime.

First-year forward Evan Konyen has been making waves and was named the AHA Rookie of the Month for January. Leading RIT with 12 goals and 22 points, Konyen has been a key player for the team. He notched nine points in 10 games last month, with five goals and four assists, including two game-winners.

RIT’s penalty killing and defense have been impressive this season, ranking in the top 20 nationally. The team boasts a solid penalty kill percentage of 83.7% and allows an average of only 2.53 goals per game, ranking 17th in the country.

Another standout player for RIT is first-year forward Zach Wigle, who holds the second spot on the team with 21 points, thanks to six goals and 15 assists. Wigle has been consistent, recording points in nine of the last 12 games and tallying 12 points in that span. Keep an eye on him during the upcoming game against Niagara!
