Paramount+ Series Based on Real-Life Inspirations for Martin Scorsese’s Film

Paramount+ is taking a deep dive into the real-life story that inspired Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in The Wolf of Wall Street. This new docuseries promises to uncover more about the figure behind the rise and fall, revealing details that haven’t been seen before on screen.

The three-part docuseries, titled The Real Wolf of Wall Street, delves into the true story of Jordan Belfort and his firm, Stratton Oakmont. The series is set to premiere in 2026 and offers a darker and more debauched version of events than previously known, as reported by Variety.

Produced by Maxine Productions and See It Now Studios, The Real Wolf of Wall Street features exclusive interviews with insiders who have never before spoken publicly about Belfort. It also includes 15,000 previously unreleased government documents and new footage, all while Jordan Belfort himself remains uninvolved in the production.

Leading the series as showrunner is Jesse Sweet, with executive producers such as Mary Robertson, Anneka Jones, Jason Leopold, Susan Zirinsky, and Terence Wrong on board. The focus of Maxine Productions and See It Now Studios on true-crime and insider accounts shines through in this upcoming project.

Jordan Belfort’s fraudulent activities at Stratton Oakmont, known for its “pump and dump” stock scheme, are well-documented. After pleading guilty to securities fraud and money laundering in 1999, Belfort spent 22 months in federal prison before later becoming an FBI informant.

While Martin Scorsese directed the 2013 film adaptation of Belfort’s memoir, with Leonardo DiCaprio portraying the main character, neither Belfort nor Scorsese are involved in this docuseries. The original film is available for streaming on Paramount+, alongside this new exploration of the real Wolf of Wall Street’s story.
