UFC Paramount+ Debut: Key Takeaways and Analysis
UFC’s first event on Paramount+ was a big hit with nearly five million viewers tuning in for the main card. Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje delivered an exciting main event, but viewers couldn’t miss the ads for TurboTax and Scream 7.
In a post-fight press conference, UFC CEO Dana White defended Paramount+, pointing out that the $8.99 monthly subscription fee was a bargain compared to the $79.99 pay-per-view price on ESPN. White acknowledged that the advertising during the event was a “work in progress” but emphasized that Paramount+ had paid for the broadcast and had the right to include ads.
While many fans appreciated the lower subscription cost on Paramount+, some expressed frustration over commercials replacing fighter walkouts and corner work audio. MMA analysts and fans alike felt that these interruptions took away from the overall broadcast experience.
Ariel Helwani, host of The Ariel Helwani Show, praised UFC 324 as a “great night for Paramount+,” but he also understood the fans’ concerns about the impact of ads on important moments during the fights.
The next UFC event on Paramount+ is scheduled for January 31, with Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes headlining UFC 325 in Melbourne, Australia.
Both Paramount and UFC declined to comment on the situation, but many fans are eagerly awaiting to see how the streaming service handles future UFC events.
